Dr. Cherney joined the Hand and Upper Extremity Center of Northeast Wisconsin in 2001. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand. He specializes in arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist; trauma; reconstruction of areas affected by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis; nerve compression syndromes; and children’s hand problems.
Dr. Cherney is a Diplomat with the National Board of Medical Examiners and a member of the following professional organizations:

- American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons
- Wisconsin State Medical Society
- Madison Orthopedic Society
Dr. Cherney received his medical degree and orthopedic residency training from the University of Wisconsin. He completed the Mary S. Stern Hand Surgery Fellowship in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the former director of the hand surgery program of the Dean Medical Center/St. Mary’s Hospital and a former assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Wisconsin.
